What You’ll Do

As an Underwriting Assistant you will be responsible for managing the day to day workflow processes required, provide technical support for the Underwriters, evaluate all underwriting information provided to ensure it meets the necessary Eydent requirements and maintain timely and accurate work flow processes.  In addition, you will provide communications with agents, brokers and insurance carriers while maintaining strong business relationships.  You will oversee the workflow process from start to finish using insurance carrier rating systems from submission through issuance.  

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Prepare renewals, new business and endorsement requests for the Underwriter by gathering and evaluating exposure data (credit information, claims history, statements of values, payroll, fleet lists, etc.), identifying rates and various coverage options, and entering information into databases
  • Compile necessary data, reports and logs as requested by the Underwriters
  • Initiate and respond promptly to telephone and written inquiries from agents and carriers about processing, policy change requests, billing status, new applications, and ratings
  • File setup: rating and/or rating overview
  • Prepare quotes, binders and billing requests
  • Handle all necessary transactions and requests once coverage is bound
  • Order loss control reports
  • Compliance with carrier reporting requirements
  • Filing as required by regulatory agencies
  • Keep the underwriting files properly documented and organized with accurate, clear and complete information and handle policy service on existing and new accounts
  • Check policies - endorsements for accuracy when issued by carrier(s)
  • Assist with team development and individual training with the Program
  • Maintain positive and professional written and oral communications internally and externally 

You Should Have:

  • 2-3 years of office experience, preferably processing and communication of policies
  • Associate Degree or experience equivalent to a degree (Bachelor’s Preferred); continuing insurance education desired
  • An active Property and Casualty license required for state of business or the ability to obtain a license and will fulfill continuing education requirements to retain the license
  • Energy industry knowledge preferred (Oil & Gas - Utilities - Renewables - Power Gen)
  • Excellent written and communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Strong reasoning skills and the ability to analyze and interpret data and can clearly communicate ideas in a concise manner 
  • The ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of property and/or casualty insurance coverages, rating procedures, rating plans and system/workflow; regulatory issues and industry practices preferred 
  • The ability to work independently and to also work in a team environment
  • Basic math skills
  • Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other programs
  • The willingness to complete additional duties and take on additional responsibilities as the need arises
